I'm going to start this post off by saying that I will not be discussing Chris Brown or Rihanna. All we have to do is jump over to any of the other blogger sites and read all about it.
With that said, I was disappointed in the show last evening. Apparently the theme was the "collaboration". Now I don't mind a good collaboration every once and a while. I thoroughly enjoy me some Ludacris in every song on the radio. Shocker there! However, please let the elderly ride off into the sunset with their years ago Grammys. I really don't need to hear bad singing by Neil Diamond, Smokey Robinson, Paul McCartney (ewwww) and the like. Yes, there were good in the day but it is 2009 and the times are a changin'....or so Barack Obama tells us.
Further, E! needs to get rid of Guiliana whatever her last name Apprentice guy is and Seacrest Out. Can you find two more annoying people? Oh wait, maybe they should add whats her face from Dancing with the Stars!
Anyway, here's the rundown, how I viewed it:
U2 - Your Boots are okay but a little boring for the opener. I think Whitney Houston was tanked!
Carrie Underwood - Why sing an old song? Give her props for being upbeat though. Her performance outfit was old looking. Enough with the shorts already.
Taylor Swift and Miley Cirus - Ehhh, one or the other should have sung the song. Taylor doesn't have the best voice but its hers....Same with Miley. They were cute though. THANK HEAVENS KELLY PICKLER WASN'T WITH THEM!
Radiohead with the USC band - LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT!!!
Coldplay - Loved the first part acoustic with Jay Z helping out (good collaboration) but where the hell did Chris Martin's voice go? Wow, he couldn't hit any of his signature higher notes. On another note, Gwyneth looked fabulous!
Kid Rock - I liked it. I love when artists do medley's of their best songs. Kid looked good too, nice suit.
Katy Perry - What can I say, she's just fun! Props for wearing flats but they looked funny.
Sugarland - Stay is a great song and I love Jennifer Nettles voice as twangy as it is. Love Christian Bush too. He needs to sing more. I love and admire anyone who can pull off an acoustic song on a big stage.
Adele - Boring....she just looked uncomfortable.
"Rap Pack" - Okay, don't like the song. Love Jay Z. T Pain's going to jail. Lil Wayne, ehhh. Kanye's Kanye.
Kanye and Estelle - Loved it. (good collaboration) Kanye needs to get rid of the fro!
Lil Wayne and Robin Thicke - LOVE Robin Thicke. Again, don't get the collaboration. I'm not a Lil Wayne fan. I laughed out loud when Robin pointed at Wayne's ass hanging out! HA!
Justin and T Pain - LOVED Justin on this song. When's his new CD coming out?!? Still not sure I liked the collaboration!
Kenny Chesney - Loved it....I have a soft spot for the 5'2" fella!
Both Collaborations with Keith Urban (the one w/ JT & Al Green was a relacement!)- Love Keith! He plays a mean guitar and is HOTT!
Alison Krauss and Robert Plant - The big winners of the night. I hadn't heard their big song before but actually liked it. Plant's a legend and she's won her fair share of awards. Good for them.
Jonas Brothers - I guess I'm too old to "get" them. They aren't even cute!!!! Yuck.
FINALLY Jennifer Hudson - What can I say? She's phenominal. Although her dress looked like there was a napkin sticking out of it, she looked fantastic. Her make up and hair were pretty. I knew she was going to lose it at the end of that song. All I think about when I see her perform is Simon telling her she should be singing on some cruise ship. Who's laughing now?
I thinked I covered just about everything. Overall, I'd give the show a C+. There were some bright spots but not enough pizzazz!
Bring on the summer concert season!!!
